Gabrielle is the author of the Alfie Bloom and Knights and Bikes series. She collaborated on the Rani Reports series with her husband as Gabrielle and Satish Shewhorak, and is the co-author of the Discworld in-world guide: Tiffany Aching’s Guide to Being a Witch alongside Rhianna Pratchett.
Gabrielle lives in the North East of England. She grew up in the 1980’s drawing castles and dragons, reading comics, and playing videogames. In the summers, she ran wild with her brothers and cousins on her Granny’s farm in Galway. Her first job was as a video-game artist working on games for PC, Playstation and XBox. She spent sixteen years as a university lecturer teaching students how to make videogames, and ran and hosted various games and animation festivals along the way.
She has always loved exploring castles and in 2006 she visited Castle Coch in Wales. As she looked at a carving of The Fates over one of the fireplaces, an idea for a story crept into her head. When she got home she started typing the story of Alfie Bloom, the boy who inherited a castle and has written many more books since.
You can read samples and learn more about her published works on the Books page.
How long before you tell us about the Tiffany Aching book you’re working on with Rhianna? 😁 🙏
Soooon! Not long to wait now. We’ve been doing some edits this week and WOW, it looks so great with Paul’s art in place.
I love the Secrets of Hexbridge Castle!!!
Thank for writing it 🙂 !!!!
I’m sorry I missed this, and thank you so much! That was my first book and I’m still very proud of it. I must write a fourth Alfie Bloom some time!
Dear M’s. Kent,
I would like to thank you for an incredible journey through The Secrets of Hexbridge Castle. The story was magical, with fantastic highs and lows. I felt I was on a roller coaster ride that I didn’t want to end. Sadly it did! I finished the book inside of 2-1/2 days. It is now 7 hours after finishing the book and I want to read more about Alfie, the twins and all the magical adventures they encounter.
I have already referred your book to one of the kids I watch. I can hardly wait to share it with the other 3 families so their kids can experience the spine tingling adventure.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Jacki a.k.a. Auntie to all the kids I watch
PS: I might just be your oldest fan at 65 yrs and counting! ?
I hope to read more from your mighty pen…
Thank you so much Jacki! Only just had time to log in here. Are you the same Jacki that sent me a lovely email?
Oh please, please keep writing Alfie’s story. My 9 yr old son and I are on the third book and are riveted. Thank you for bringing the passion of reading to my somewhat reluctant son. We are dying for more!! Thank you! Melanie and Will
Hi Melanie. Thank you for your lovely comment! I’m on maternity leave at the moment so only just checking in to my site and was delighted to read that you and your son are enjoying the series! I do have more in mind, but have been asked to work on a couple of other books right now. But Alfie and friends WILL return… as may some other characters 😉
